Hello Internet Wanderer. My name is Mayank Jain. Welcome to my blog.
Hello! Where am I? What is this blog about?
This is my personal blog where I write about my experiments with living a simpler, more mindful life. Also stories, books and places that inspire me.
That's vague. Can you be more specific? What can I expect here?
Sure. You can expect:
- Ways to be more creative and productive (example 1, example 2)
- Life-hacks to improve everyday life (example)
- Intense questions and my perspective on them (example)
- Ways to practice daily mindfulness (example)
- Short Stories (example) and Poems (example)
- Travelogues (example)
- Book Recommendations (example) and Summaries (example)
Alright. What's your story?
When I was a teenager, apart from doing all the teenage-y stuff, I read a lot and wrote a bit (poems, essays, school debates). And these two habits continue till this day.
I grew up studying in different cities - Alwar, Indore, Kota and graduated from IIT Roorkee in Mechanical Engineering. My first job after college was at JP Morgan where I coded for a living. Even though, it had very little to do with what I had learnt at college, learning how to code was the best thing that could have happened to me and it is a skill I value highly.
Two years later, I quit my job and co-founded Musicfellas. It started as a one person music blog and later became a place to stream, discover and buy independent music. Musicfellas was acquired by Times Internet Ltd. in Feb 2014.
After selling off the company, my mind was a blank slate again. That's when I discovered Minimalism as a way of life. It immediately caught my attention and I started my journey towards being a minimalist. I had never been too fond of consumerism or buying a lot of stuff, so it came easily to me.
At the same time, I also discovered the practice of mindfulness. I had no idea of what it was about until I found blogs such as Zenhabits, which had a strong influence on me. I was an agitated 20-something always going after my next fix of adrenaline and ignoring the moment at hand. I wasn't unhappy, but something was missing. And practicing mindfulness has improved my life considerably by filling more in to each moment whatever and wherever it may be.
These two things together have helped me in making better habits, being more productive and finding contentment with the present moment appreciating the life as it is.
What are you doing currently?
Over the past few years, I have become increasingly excited about becoming a digital nomad. The financial and location independence are ideas that I associate myself with a lot. So, I recently moved to Goa. Here's the post with the details: I Relocated to Goa - Why, How and Status Report of the first 3 months. I've been playing poker for a living; here's everything you need to know about that: Playing Poker for a Living - A Complete Breakdown. This year (2017) also marked the launch of India's first ever Poker Sports League. And I was fortunate enough to be a part of one of the teams - Gujarat Acers. For more on my poker journey, here's an interview I had with Sportskeeda.
How often do you publish new articles?
Not often enough. Maybe twice a month. But, I would like to write more in the coming months. To get new posts in your email, leave your email address below. I don't spam, so don't worry about it.
